 the people want poems they comprehend

words they can take by the hand

words that say what they mean

like tiny robots lined up to make our burritos


they want poems that lead them

as if they were leashed dogs

as if they were being lead to culture

like horses thirsty for oats


they want poems that decode

the complex nothingness

that reduce it to a formula that makes sense

like zero equals zero


we all know what that means

what “that” means

there is no emptiness so empty

that we cannot fill it with words
